My 16 yr old gelding, the gentlest, most laidback horse in history, has suddenly started mounting the mares at his new yard!

He has never shown any inclination to do this in the past, he's been in almost every type of turnout situation over the years (mixed large herds, small mixed groups, just one other mare for company) and has never behaved like this before....but he's really going for it all of a sudden.

I've seperated him from the girls for the meantime, he's not bothered being on his own, but why suddenly now? Its really out of character...

That's so weird - my gelding has done this before but I haven't seen him do it this year until today when he mounted one of my mares. I assumed her seasons had finished for this year as well. Is it something in the air??

Alf is a bit that way inclined. Well - a lot, if I'm honest! He only favours one mare, the old girl he lives with now, he never so much as sniffed the other mare I had with them last year. They are joined at the hip 365 days a year, but when she cones into season, he has no shame about hopping on board and giving her one! She encourages him shamelessly as well - the harlot! I have to separate them when Alf is feeling the granny love - he's pretty full on, and worry that he'll hurt her. He was never a problem until he came to me and started living the feral lifestyle!

He's got so obssessed he's even off his food a bit, which is unheard of!
Luckily the mare owners just think its hilarious, the mares are bigger than him and he's not shod or being aggressive or anything, but its just so weird. He's the only gelding here at the moment with 3 mares, maybe he's just taking advantage of there being no male competition?
If he had to compete, he probably wouldn't bother, too much like hard work... though he's using a lot of energy on keeping the girls happy, dirty old man!!
