Just wondering whether anyones geldings go stupid when mares are in season, ones in different fields included?

How do you cope with their behaviour if they do?

There is a mare at my yard that is a complete tart, and my gelding is smitten with her. Whenever she comes into season he is a complete nightmare, and spends the whole time mounting her. It became so bad last month that we have decided to separate her from the geldings when she next comes into season.

I agree that it is the mare and not the gelding. The majority of geldings will mount this mare, when they have never paid much interest in other mares before!

My horse was gelded at 5 and used for breeding before I had him. I agree that it's the mares - they entice the geldings by squirting and winking. It's a brave geldingwho mounts a mare who doesn't invite him! Yesterday out hacking, 2 mares passed us on a bridlepath and my gelding did the flehman posture... I think seasons may be about to start again this year... He's not a problem though except that he won't let other geldings anywhere near the mare who is in season. When I get my horse in to go out hacking in the summer, all the other geldings line up and mount the mare who is in season...
