Actually, stupid person. A friend of mine in fact. She owns 2 GSDs and what she calls a cavapoo - CKCS crossed with a poodle. To me, known as furry mop

We were talking about seasons etc the other day and what age you should breed from and so on as she was asking about when I'm breeding my lab bitch. I told her I wasn't breeding her until she is over the age of 2 and I have her hip/elbow/eye scores and general health check done.

She then says she'll be breeding her GSDs (one is a bitch and she is using her own dog) as well as her cavapoo thing. I asked her what the hip scores etc had come back as for her GSDs and she says she isn't getting them done as it costs too much and besides, she doesn't think they'll pass (

I was too speechless at this stage to ask why she was even considering breeding the mongrel.

I know someone with a Cavapoo. The dog is cute, but it has cost the owner a small fortune in vet's bills (both knees have Grade 3 luxating patellas; cherry eye; skin issues). I would adopt a cross in a heartbeat, but these people who buy hybrids for $2000 from petstores want their bumps feeling.

I wish people who are intent on breeding for breedings sake would just stop and take a look around the local rescues

I CANNOT abide "designer" cross breeds

Have no issues with cross breeds, but stop trying to make them appealing by giving them "adorable" names

It's a bloomin' mutt, not a Cavipoo!

You don't approve of Splatterdales then...?

CAVAPOO....wouldn't give one house room. What's this modern obsession for breeding mongrels, calling them posh names, trying to sell them for £200 and filling the rescues up even more.

Our first family dog, infact all our family dogs, were what used to be called 'mistakes' and were advertised as free to good homes!!!

Re the OP, Can you take your 'friend' to a local rescue and show her all the dogs that are already without homes or would she not care?

I have been wondering about if I should write something about a puppies for sale add in my morning paper, ***after several deep breaths to calm my nerves*** Cocker Spaniel x Doberman Pinscher ***Nope, deep breathing didn't help, still feel slightly upset only typing that***

By quickly looking at some breed characteristics and mixing them you could theoretically get a dog of more or less Doberman size with temperament that varies widely (depending upon how the owners treat the dog) and is sociable with strangers.

I especially didn't like reading that it said the C S temperament could vary depending on the owners treatment, after reading the following about Dobermans, should be thoroughly socialized when young to prevent skittishness.

From a humorous point of view though, I could just imagine a guard dog trying to retrieve the criminals...

So I take it you have a wealthy friend then Gina B? I mean puppies don't eat air, especially if they're not sold "in time". During that talk of yours, did you also talk about your worry (if that's a lie, it would be a very white one to me) about all that could go wrong with your lovely Lab bitch and how costly it is with caesareans on dogs etc.

Or had you already reached the too speechless stage?
