oh god, i have really lost any ability to think! im trying to measure my saddle as i want to sell it and ive found a website which tells you where to measure: http://www.wikihow.com/Measure-a-Saddle
a) are the things its telling me right?
b) where is the cantle, tree, rivet?
anyone know anything else i should measure/ say about the saddle, its a wintec 500 all purpose saddle.
ive never sold/measured a saddle before so very sorry for ridiculously stupid qeustions!

The cantle is the back of the saddle. The point of tree is under the stirrup flap, in front of the stirrup bar and the rivet is around the area of the front dee ring. I do believe that saddles ARE measured from the rivet to the cantle. Not all 17" (or 16" or 18" for that matter) are equal though and some will feel bigger than others.

If you are selling and need it for an ad, measure from one of the little button-like things on the stirrup bar cover to the middle of the back - cantle. Only other measurement you normally find is in a straight line from D ring to D ring on the front - that tells you if it's medium, wide or narrow.

Heres a link showing parts of saddle

Measure seat from the stud/rivet on the skirt to the middle of the cantle - as PF says, they do vary in 'feel' even if they measure the same
As Martlin says, people like to know the the distance between the d rings at the front of the saddle. Along with the make of saddle this tells people if it's narrow, medium, wide etc. Different makes call the same measurements different sizes.
