I need to clip ponio this weekend. He's out 24/7 atm, unrugged and is sweating between his legs so I'm just going to clip his belly.

He's really filthy, so do I bath before I clip (I usually bath the day before) bearing in mind it'll be chilly and I have no stable for him (so would pop his rug on until he was dry) or just give him a damn good groom? Any other ways of getting him clean without getting him wet?

If he is really dirty - you might not get the grease out of his coat just by grooming - and thats what ruins the blades and snags the hair.

Try using hot water and a towel after a good grooming to lift all the surface dust, wring out towel and lightly wipe off the dust, keep rinseing out every couple of strokes, should find that helps!

But it really is the grease that you have to get out. Can't you bath him in the morning and clip him in the afternoon when he is dry?

well, it's peeing with rain today, and he's sopping wet anyway...

typical!!

Unfortunatly you can't clip when he's wet for various reasons safety being one! Why do you need the grease out of his coat to clip? Just give him a good brush to move the mud and if the clippers get a bit stuck spray some mane and tail conditioner on!
