I don't really know much about livery yards and have a stupid question!

Do all liveries use stables at some point or is there anyone that uses a livery yard and keeps their horses turned out 24/7, 365 days a year? Or do these people just try to rent a field somewhere?

Thank you. :)

Some yards go offer grass livery, so out all the time. Sometimes these yards keep a stable free so that it might be available in an emergency - doesn't always happen though. That way you get the livery yard perks (school, more people around, maintenence etc) that you would be without if you rent a field.

Some livery yards do grass livery. This is where you pay to use a field and you don't have a stable. Some places will provide a field shelter.

Thank you both!

I was just thinking in the future that if I am working full time, not for my mum like I do in my spare time now, that having Belle a 30 minute drive away would be really annoying. The idea of a livery yard totally terrifies me when I've always been able to keep horses outside my family's home! Will have to give it some thought for the future.

Thanks again for the answers, it was really bugging me, hehe.

As the other posters really. But grass livery may or may not have a feild shelter. Also if your horse is injured, sick or just needs to get in from truely awful weather then you need a stable.

Grass only livery is much cheaper. But to my mind can be a false economy - especially if there is no shelter. You can get livery with 24/7 year round turn out but where you still pay either for a stable which is entirely yours (you can then use it for storage if you want) or for the right to use a pool of stables in an emergency.
