I am such an idiot.

Some of you might know I'm pregnant with our first. Baby's due at the end of December. Some of you might know we're due to move house (relocating with work) once the baby's here. Some of your might know I'm currently horseless. The baby, the house move and not knowing how much disposable income we'll have after all that means I'd decided to wait at least 6-9 months before even thinking about getting a horse (ok, not thinking about it is an overstatement)....

So why am I so stupid?? Despite everything I can't help looking at available horses online, I've found one I'm completely in love with and I've spent most of this afternoon trying to work out how I can buy him, transport him feck knows how many miles down here, stable him in some sort of affordable way.....all for a horse I can't even ride yet!

I dunno why I'm even posting this, I just wanted to rant about my stupidity for a bit!

for the same reason that all of us spend hours trawling the horses for sale ads when we can't afford horses- we have an addiction!

I don't think you are stupid.

I used to do it all the time, before I was in a position to buy - its called wishful thinking and there is no harm in that unless you timewaste and actually ring people up.

Its nice to know whats on the market and also see what is hanging around. When I was wishful thinking I got to know the horses advertised, noticed the price drops, noticed how long they had been up for sale, etc and so when I came to look and I saw something I liked I knew whether it had been up for sale for a while.

Your time will come, I am sure, so happy browsing and good luck with your new arrival.

Keep looking but do not get one yet, it is amazing how much those little ankle biters take up your time, and you will be besoted with your new baby, mine was not even plnned or indeed dare I say it 'wanted' but until the last couple of years ( she is now 3) I have not given my big chestnut baby all the care he was used to

Have just spent the last 3 weeks helping some friends look for a pony for thier daughter, so have been lucky enough to get my horses buying 'fix' using someone elses cash!!

BUT still found myself looking for a horse that I cant afford for my daughter, I really should be selling not buying, it really is an adiction!

When I was pregnant with my middle child I had the most terrible addiction, not eating coal or licking soap or any of the other weirdo stuff we go through...all I wanted to do was ride. I was absolutely obsessed, it was all I dreamt about about. To make matters worse I was with the most awful partner who couldn't have been less horsey if he tried (we all make mistakes!!). The only equine fix I could indulge in was watching the racing on TV on a Saturday afternoon. How sad is that. Anyway life moves on, and I'm sure it will with you, and you'll have your baby and life will pan out for you again and you'll be looking for a horse for real.

I've got two horses now, which I'm perfectly happy with, but I STILL look at horses on the internet and go into those happy little fantasies, don't worry, you are completely normal and NOT stupid at all!!!

Thanks everyone - it's nice to be understood.

Believe me, I've spent many years doing just this, since way back when I was a kid and would get horsey magazines and spend all day circling all the horses I liked in the classifieds. What I don't get is why this one particular horse has really got under my skin! I mean, I've looked at tons of horses over the years, lots recently, but this one......! I'm gonna blame the pregnancy

It wouldn't be so bad if we absolutely couldn't afford it - like when I was younger it'd just be a nice pipedream then. I mean, we're not rolling in it or anything but it wouldn't cripple us either, but the time and expense of a baby is just too uncertain for me to take that gamble. Totally unfair on the horse if we found the baby and the move too much of a strain all round.

*sigh* sorry for going on about this, I really don't know what's wrong with me at the moment!

Thanks for listening guys.

Awww Pookie - how frustrating for you. I do understand though - as I think we all do. I'm currently in no position to have another neddy due to silly old injury, but I look at ads all the time. Soooooo addictive isn't it? But it sounds like you are in good compamy!

Good luck with the move and the baby!

Oh gawd......we all do that.....sadly I give myself a fictional amount of money to spend and then trawl through mags and t'internet looking for the perfect horsey.....

.....don't tell the 3 I've got, they would be most affronted
