I have my trailer insured for theft etc, but no breakdown cover as it hasn’t been used for a while

Does it only cover recovering my trailer and horse and I need separate car breakdown cover? As it’s this that will be broken down if something happens. Or does it cover the car too? Does it cover my car when I am then not towing?

I have theft, liability etc on a trailer policy with the insurers who cover my horses. I have a separate breakdown policy with Equine Rescue Services.

My policy covers only recovery of the trailer and the horse. I chose not to include recovery of the car, because I have that already as an add-on to my regular car insurance.

Or does it cover the car too?
Yes it can do. It depends on exactly which policy you choose. It might vary a bit between insurers as to whether they offer this as an option - I don't know because I've only every used ERS. And I know they definitely do offer it.

Does it cover my car when I am then not towing?
Yes it can do.

Take a look at this, this is obviously only one company but it will help you get an idea of what is available. I think it answers all your questions.

My breakdown covers car and trailer because if I do break down, I don't want to be having to phoned two separate organisations to come and rescue me and my animals and belongings.

I have breakdown cover for the car/trailer and horse, mine also covers me for the car without the trailer too. I've used it once without the trailer (they were fab) and almost once with the horse, again great service but thankfully not needed in the end

I have separate AA as OH pays for a joint one then pay for trailer in addition just in case. it’s £60
For year but worth it for piece of mind for me.
