It's bad enough that I tend to spend any down time dreaming about xc (am I the only one who gazes out of car/train windows imagining leaping over hedges along the way?!), but am stupidly excited about going out tomorrow.

I didn't make it out much last year and we only managed one autumn meet this year. Apart from being keen as ever, she was brilliant. First proper meet coming up tomorrow. I have visions of going up tonight and finding out horse has lost various shoes etc etc. I am being VERY lazy and asked the YM to spruce and plait her up for me, ready for me to tidy her up in the morning, so presumably if any legs had fallen off, she'd have told me by now?

I just need to try and get a wink of sleep tonight - not helped as am having pre-hunt sleepover at a friend's house, so I'm bound to be over-excited - and then squeeze myself into my newly laundered hunt coat, which appears to have shrunk somewhat since last season. Oop.

And sadly, I'm not 12 years old, although you'd be forgiven for thinking so from the above :)

Please tell me I'm not alone !

No you are not alone!!!

Despite being lucky enough to indulge in autumn hunting at least once a week, I could not attend our OM as had to work. I then sulked for days and swore repeatedly at all the pictures of my hunting buddies having fun without me!!!

Fortunately my season started on Tuesday, and although i knew it was a quiet meet, I put as much effort into my horse and attire as if it was the OM - I also did not sleep a wink the night before and turned up ridiculously early…

It is great to have a passion and nothing to be ashamed of. I am hunting again on Sat so am just hoping I will sleep a little better on Fri, although no doubt will still be stupidly excited again…

Have fun!

ps. I am 42…..

Hope you have a good time Bernster. Mum will be at the meet on foot, I'm off beating. I was very excited for tues, but will confess it took me a while to sort my stock pin, fingers and thumbs!! Was a brilliant day but I had to go home early due to a loose shoe, bit of a bummer but hopefully have the whole season ahead of us.

See you soon.

Bernster - I have galloped and jumped the verges on the sides of the roads and country spied from cars and trains since a child - it helped to pass the time whilst travelling but have never been overly brave jumping in real life and never been hunting...but wish I could become brave enough to go. Im excited for you.

Loved all these replies! And good to hear I'm not alone, with my imaginary hedge hopping and my ocd preparations. Even the fat coat makes me feel better!

It was a good day but and odd day in the end. Horses were great, weather was warm and sunny, and lovely to be out with my pals again. Horses started out too keen so we went non jumping and didn't really get back in with the jumpers. But a few new/fresh/naughty horses(half term?) and a 'few instances'Nothing too bad I think, but it meant being extra careful of those around you.

Then we did the most stupid thing and tried to go into macdonalds drive through in the horse box and couldn't fit so had a very embarrassing time trying to reverse out. I'm blaming feeling giddy from being out.

Have a few more planned from now til dec and am hoping to go out with a drag hound pack to see how that goes. Think my brakes may fail me so going to try a grackle or poss change bits.

Hope everyone has a blast at ther next outing !
