As title really after a long period of problems with horse there still remains some issues that we can't seem to get to the bottom off . I don't want to pit her through a scope at this point as she has had a lot of stuff done recently and thought this test might give me an indication as to whether I'm being paranoid or if I just get her scoped . If anyone has used would appreciate your thoughts and also any vets in north west that have supplied this test ?

As above I wouldn't use it, it's not reliable enough. If I didn't want to scope, I'd speak to my vet about symptoms and ask for a short trial prescription of gastrogard.

I wouldn't rule out the scope based on a negative but I would scope on a positive ...it's more to justify putting her through it and I understand they are not completely reliable. I have looked at putting her on abprazole from America as that is very cost effective

Abprazole is not from America, last I checked I think it was Sri Lanka, and it's not legal to import it into the UK. Many people do, because of the cost, and it does work.

If it's not legal how are so many people getting away with buying it in the UK...I don't understand how the importing drugs is policed or how if they are a reputable company why they would do something illegal?

DW f you don't want to scope I would ask your vet for an omeprazole trial. Failing that I would buy ranitidine from eBay and test with that. It takes 48 hours or less to show a result. You need to dose with 6.6mg per kg of horse at least twice a day, ideally every six hours.

They aren't a reputable company. They are knowingly selling drugs around the world that are not legal to import. They get away with it because customs can't open every single parcel that comes through our ports and airports and it's sent in plain wrappers with a false declaration of contents.

The drugs they sell have not been officially tested or certified for use in most of the countries they sell to. The FDA in the US have been trying to shut them down for years but have no jurisdiction over the country where they are made and sold from.

They do work though, thousands of people use them.

Keep an eye on the news re ranitidine if you choose to go down this route as last month the FDA suspended Zantac (aka Ranitidine) due to an alleged link with cancer as a result of some impurities found in it. Glaxosmithkline seem to have recalled from some countries and stopped distribution.

Yes, thanks for the warning. I've seen the news but I believe the risk is long term use due to very small amounts of impurities?

Testing takes 48 hours, treatment 28 days.

You can legally import prescription medicines "for personal use". Not sure whether the courts have even clarified whether that includes own animals, but I used it with success. There is also Peptizole - prescription again but not as expensive as Gastroguard

I also had success with a complimentary version - bicarb to reduce acidity, coconut oil (or slippery elm but it isn't very palatable) to line the GIT and live yoghurt to boost the gut flora. What my then vet described as my kitchen sink remedies but they worked!

Or you could check on here, bearing in mind it is a US site and not everything such as pumpkin seeds are easy to find in the UK https://equinenutritionnerd.com/201...tions-for-stomach-ulcer-treatment-prevention/

In your position I would diagnose by therapy - i.e. give the treatment and see if it helps. You could use an over the counter version such as Nexium in large doses if your vet isn't willing to prescribe without a positive endoscope result or you don't want to go down the complimentary route

Fortunately I haven't had to deal with ulcers / hind gut for a few years, but when I did, there was a FB group called something like 'horses with ulcers selling site' which you might find useful OP?

Based on experience, I'm another one that wouldn't bother with the succeed test either (or the succeed product for that matter). You can go old school and try a couple of days on Gaviscon and see if that helps? It's easier to get hold of in larger quantities than some other meds.

And yes....Abler products work and are cost effective
