So, today i think I did my good deed - driving to my parent's house this morning, I saw a flash of black heading down the track from the woods on the other side of the road. To my shock, this 'flash' shot out into the 50mph road with 4 cars on that side of the road. Cue feeling of pure horror from me! Thankfully, one car driver was quick thnking and managed to swerve - not sure how as from that direction the view of the path is blocked by trees so the car driver had zilch time to react!
Anyway thankfully he missed the dog and the dog somehow avoided colliding with 2 other cars and shot across to my side of the road. Noone stopped and there was no owner evident so I stopped and got out to try and coax some very timid dog towards me. Poor thing was terrified (she was a large saluiki cross I think) and I thought she was going to get run over in front of me as she kept running round my car. Finally got her to come close and made a grab! Great, had a collar on with name and number. However, the number was a home number only and I was pretty sure the owner was probably out with the dog when it had legged it!
I tried the number several times just in case but then had to call my dad to come in his car as the dog would not get in mine due to my little 'madam' in the boot 'shouting' at her! Dad brought a lead and walked her back up to the woods to try and find an owner and,to cut a long story short he finally found a very desperate woman looking for her!
My question is - what number do you put on your dog's collar? I thought it was a bit daft to just have a home number on there when you're more than likely to be out with the dog when you lose it. Surely it makes more sense to have a mobile phone and put THAT number on there? I am really glad we found the owner and even happier I didn't see a dog run over in front of me but I felt I could have reunited owner and dog a lot sooner had there been a mobile number on that collar!!!
