About two Years ago I was getting a fright with my boy going down and not getting up, touch WOOD, that has not happened again.......

Yesterday he had a drink and then I heard a clang ( I think was trough), and when I turned around and he was on the deck, he was not afraid, and was trying to get up, ( I was in bits), after about 30 seconds he got up and was being very strange, he could not walk forward, and seemed to backing away from something!!!!!!!

WEll, I thought he was having a fit, but he walked away fine, after about 10 seconds.

I know this post proably seems a bit rushed and it is as the experience was soo quick, now I have calmed down and had time to think..

Could it be ( as I suspect), that he slipped on the mud and gave himself a dead leg. This is what I now think, as it all happened soo quick.

When he got himself together, all he seemed to be doing was look at his back leg, he came over had a fuss and some treats and went back to grazing

I am worreid though after last year, but this was completly different, he was not scared or panicked, he just looked cross with himself ( if that makes sense)

I suppose I just want reasurence as I did not sleep last night.

Hot chocolate and cookies for those who got this far xxxx

Thought that, but when he was having his ' doos' got the vet and they could not see anything, this 'doo' was just so completly different, no eye roolling, not teeth baring, he was just really annnoyed with himself,

Bless him

As I say epilepsy was my first thought, but It was just not like that, it was very strange.

Thanks for your reply btw, ( maybe I am wishful thinking)!!!!!, who knows what gpes on when we are not there :(

our neighbours horse has funny turns where he cant seem to walk forward and almost stumbles around the place and the vets dont know whats causing it. he is 30 now though so probably something to do with his age but he recently fell in a ditch and it took 3 hours to get him out, his owner thinks he had one of his turns but we will never know! just keep a diary of them, times and dates, how long it lasts and what happens with each one etc, and pass them onto your vet.

That might be the same, mine is a TB, and nearly 30, so could be the same, in every other way he is ' fine', still kills everything, not a good thing I know, but the one thing that lets me know he is feeling ok, still eats, still a little 'git', but this is giving me sleepless nights again, it all in all lasted about a minute.

Even more worrying as it is the time for fireworks, when I need him to just chill.

Get a good night's sleep and check him over in the morning for any lumps/bumps/heat/lameness, espec. the leg he wasn't happy with. Vet if any.

Fingers crossed for you this was a one-off slipping thing though.

Random thought I wouldn't know enough abt to really comment on:
Is he in work/shod? I know some people find being barefoot can help with grip. Might be worth discussing with your farrier if his feet would be suitable for it and you spot him doing any more 'skating' tricks.

Sounds like narcolepsy - google "narcolepsy and horses" and see if the symptoms fit your horse. My concern until you get a proper diagnosis is that if it is narcolepsy, it could happen anywhere, any time so you should'nt be riding him. Fingers crossed x
