well I went to collect Aspen this morning at 9am

. My friend was upset to see her go but shes not a million miles away from her yard (well actually about 150m

) and shes more than welcome to come and visit whenever she wants.

so although it was chucking it down i decided to give her a bath - no major problems and she wasnt bothered by the hosepipe. so off into a stable with a thermatex and a haybar full of haylage to dry off and relax - didnt take her long.

this is now where i find out her little problems, which arent huge i must have to say.

she must have had a bad time with her skin and rubbed herself sore over the last few months. she twitches as soon as you touch her anywhere her neck/shoulders/mane. Her skin is hard and lumpy in areas and i can feel what feels like little scabs under her coat.
I know some of you might feel it was a lot to put on the little girl, but I tried her with the clippers this evening. Although shes not bothered about the clippers themselves she cant cope with the feeling, twitches and gets upset. So it looks like ill need either to get my trainer over to hold her and help me or get the vet to come and sedate her so i can get her clipped out and get all her skin treated properly.

So i know where i stand with her at the moment, shes a lovely girl and should come on leaps and bounds now i know what im dealing with.

Ahhh! she looks and sounds lovely, but if she is getting that upset I would let the vet have a look at her before you sedate her for clipping ... it may be sore and hurting her?

Good luck with her, maybe a good medicated shampoo would do the job?

Ohhh

As others have said - sounds like she's got something going on there to make her skin so sore and itchy. Could be sweetitch or lice. By the way, is she a Haffie? She's totally gorgeous x

Hermangerman - well i had a good hard think about her last night and i spoke to my trainer about her. its one of those catch 22 situations - i cant treat her properly without taking all her mane/coat off as its thick, but she wont let me clip her to get to her skin. arghh.
ive called my vet this morning and im hoping hes going to get to see her today. going to ask him to have a look at her and see what he thinks to her skin. im hoping hell get me a skin scraping and either send it off to a nutritionalist or someone like that to see whats wrong.
i bathed her in dermoline yesterday but as soon as i can get to clip her ill be treating her with some shampoo from the vets ive got (cant remember its name)

ellie_girl - i love her forelock - hoping in time that her mane will follow suit and she have gorgeous thick flowing mane rather than a bog brush like it is now.

Box_of_Frogs - ive been told by her old owner the vets have confirmed its not sweet itch as theyve run numerous tests on her, and they are at a loss. so im hoping my vet can see something with her.
you got it one - she certainly is a Haffie and a goreous girl at that (or am i just biased?
