So today I had the horse I have completely fell in love with vetted!
I have had such a bad feeling that something would go wrong for the past week and I was right!
Basically one of his shoes came loose yesterday so the present owners had to have him shod today which was really just the start, the vet showed up and obviously wasn't happy that he had just been shoed but said we could continue anyway everything was going fine until the flexion test where he came off lame on both forelegs so we had to stop. The vet obviously couldn't give a clear result as she said it could be down to him being sore footed or he could have a problem. At this point I am practically in tears and completely deflated. His current owners mum was an absolute star though and we agreed that we would give him a week to recover and see how we go.
I rang the vet again after I left and she agreed that it was definitely worth her coming back to examine him in a couple of weeks!
Anyway I spoke to owners again later and they said the farrier was coming back out to have a look at his feet. He took the shoes off and found that the poor horse had pocket infections from the old nails! Poor Alfie no wonder he came off lame, its a real credit to him though that he was so well behaved during all of this 2 visits from the farrier and 1 from the vet and he has been as good as gold.
So we are now going to give him sometime to recover and then the vet will come back out to do the flexion again and fingers crossed he will pass with flying colours.
I am trying not to get to excited but today has made me fall in love with him a little bit more and I have even more trust in his current owners because of well they have handled everything today its always lovely to know that the horse you are buying is coming from a loving home!

Thank you! I have been to see other horses but I just haven't had the same 'feeling' about them as him!!! I think I will be heart broken if he can't come home with me!

I have decided to walk away :( spoke to 4 separate vets today about what happened yesterday and they all confirmed that regardless of what happened with the shoes that wouldn't of affected the flexion test.

Feel gutted right now but there were just to many buts and what ifs :(

So going to ring Moorcroft tomorrow as I have learned a lot from this process and I am very keen on giving an ex-racer a forever home!

My forever chap has his vetting on Wednesday. I don't know what I will do if there's anythibg bad. Trying not to think about it. Fingers crossed for your search, he will turn up, promise!

I have got everything crossed for you!!! He will be fine!

I have just started browsing but feeling a little numb towards everything at the moment!

Oh no I am sorry to hear that! Don't worry there are no doubt hundreds of ex racers looking for a home!

I know! I am really looking forward to having a chat with moorcroft tomorrow and spoke with my instructor this evening and she is going to keep her ears to the ground for me and she has offered to come with me to potential viewings so hopefully in a few weeks the stable will have a lovely horse in it :)

if you love him that much and he failed the vetting would you still buy him?

my cob was 4/10 lame behind from being hit by a motor bike and had come out of surgery and had his final work up with the vet and was still 4/10 lame after flexion and i still bought him because i had fallen in love with him whilst he was on box rest and i just knew with time he would become sound, which he is today.

his old owner emailed me 1 year later asking if i wanted to sell him back to her now he was sound egghhh!!
