Hello all.
I am currently at Uni at Hartpury and my horse (15.2 11yr old TB) is turned out 8-12 in the morning and stabled the rest of the day and night, although he is ridden everyday and worked pretty hard for an hour or longer. He was clipped a month ago but that has grown back a bit so I am clipping him next week too; a full clip with face and legs off too.
Last year at home (aberdeen) due to school etc. he was only lightly ridden once or twice a week , was not clipped, and lived out 24/7 and was not stabled at all. He does not like stables very much and is far happier outside.
He is going home at the beginning of Dec for a holiday until the end of January. He will be ridden once or twice a week lightly. We have good stabling facilities at home, the only problem is his companions will not be able to be stabled with him as they are native, so he will be alone, but the stables are facing the fields his friends will be in.
Should I continue stabling him throughout the night when he goes home or would it be okay to turn him out 24/7 as soon as he gets home if he would be fully rugged up? Is that too much change??
Thank you!!
