Hi guys,

I just wanted to know everyones views on Sue Carson dressage saddles.

I have had my grand prix special for about a year now and I have to admit, I am not very impressed.

I cant remember exactly but I'm pretty sure I paid over £3000 pounds for a custom made saddle that seems too long for my horse and not properly fitted.

They also seem to forget that for a price like that customer service needs to be of a high quality but instead I find that when I need to have the saddle checked it takes a while for them to come back to me with a date that suits them (the last time I asked it took one of the saddlers a month and that was with me badgering her) and the dates that suit them are few and far between. Not only that but they charge... ALOT... to come out to check it so I really expect them to be more available for their customers.

My saddle was recently adjusted due to my horse putting on more muscle and straight after she had readjusted it, the saddle didnt feel right... it felt worse, i told the saddler this but she said it looked fine.

We called sue and she said she would come down and have a look but she doubts its the saddle! and she will charge!

Absolutely ludicrous!!

Does anybody else have similar experiences?

Are there any other dressage saddles people would recommend?

Sorry I just needed to have a bit of a rant!!

I had a very similar experience with a 'made to measure' Sue Carson jumping saddle. In fact my first ever post on HHO was very similar to this one!

I looked into SC saddles a couple of years back now, couldn't find the perfect style though. I did find it odd that all of their demo saddles were MW.

I've later found out from another source that SC isn't a master saddler.

A Master Saddler makes saddles and is very highly qualified to do so, a Qualified Saddle Fitter is the modern qualification. Some Master Saddlers may be good fitters but not all are. But what I should say is that there are some great fitters out there who are not SMS qualified at all - it is expensive and lengthy to do so, if you already have a happy clientele there is no incentive to qualify, nor is it easy to find someone to apprentice with. not surprising when chances are that apprentice will become your competition once qualified!

Not a comment aimed at SC saddles at all, I'll leave that to others and your searching on here, that should yield a fair bit of info!
