Hi members. I have recently repatriated to the UK from the United Arab Emirates and brought my gorgeous arab gelding with me! Obviously he has only ever known the desert and he is now living at a livery yard in chilly Essex. He seems happy coping with the weather and enjoys his feed. His weight and condition has not altered. However, he has become very difficult to handle on the ground. He was always a docile chap but has become very bargy and nippy and generally unpleasant! I appreciate adapting to his new surroundings will take time but has anyone got any advice on helping a horse settle into a new yard?

Hello and welcome to the uk and the forum:) is he getting turnout everyday and is he ridden? I only ask as one of my Arabs gets a bit bitey and cheeky when his not doing so much work which is mainly around this time of year and the really cold weather can make them a bit full of themselves.

He is ridden about 4 times a week and has even had a short hack out where he behaved very well indeed. He was always ridden daily but thats not possible at the moment. He gets a couple of hours turnout a day but the yard girls say he just stands there waiting to be taken back in!
