My saddle has to go into the workshop to have flocking taken out and then put back in to make saddle flatter (my girl has really muscled up - yay me - all that riding IS paying off

)

My saddle is a bit tatty (the only saddle which fitted her was the oldest/tattiest one in entire van whilst the lovely new Albion did not !!)

I was thinking about having a seat changed to a suede one whilst it's in workshop. My thinking is that suede will be more secure (altho' a bugger to keep clean).

Does anyone have one and are there any cons (apart from cleaning issue?) I heard that some dressage riders don't like them as it's more difficult to shift your seat when needed - but considering we only compete at RC level I don't think that applies......

I've got a saddle company saddle which has a suede seat. I absolutely love it...
It can get soggy in the rain but dries out pretty quickly, and is very soft! It does wear slightly faster then a leather one would, but I just love the way it looks...

Also makes me feel a lot more secure in the saddle, stops my bum sliding all over the place!

ETA: Cleaning a con??? Surely not! Less leather, less cleaning..it's definitley a pro!!

Ohhh I love suede on saddles! My old jumping one had suede knee rolls and they just stuck you in place LOL! Sadly I had to sell it as my Mare got to narrow for it, sniff sniff!

I am hoping to get a saddle company close contact jumping saddle sometime and I will definitely get suede knee rolls and seat.

I love suede on saddles too but with time they will wear and turn into leather! One thing you could do is get a Heather Mofett seatbone saver, I love mine - comfy suede AND memory foam!

My bates has a suede seat, and although wasnt a great fan before I had it, LOVE it now, so secure and comfortable. Use one of those sponge scrubber things (the sponge with the green brillo pad on) to keep it looking like suede.

I've also had saddles with suede knee rolls :)
although it does turn into leather when very worn it is not that hard to keep clean - you can also use a gentle brush to brush up the suede, as you would with shoes. it never seemed to get dry and was less work than cleaning normal leather.

We have suede seated saddles. The better riders on the yard don't like them as it makes them feel they are sticking to the saddle. Personally I LOVE the suede seats just for that reason!
