Suffolk punch foal finally born five weeks late

I would've thought they could've(or should've) induced the poor mare before it got to this point - it must have been an horrendous labour! But then I'm really no expert on foals/foaling....just my opinion.

I have had mares who used to carry their foals for a full year without any problem.

And you can't induce! Our mare went 375 days with no problems. Don't no what all the fuss is about.

Mine was 6 days short of that, and she had no problems! Record is apparently 421 days!

Vets don't like to induce unless mare/foal are in danger.

ETA: She was due on the same day as Dorey!! Which is pretty cool - but it also shows just what an affect the cold weather has had this year!

I don't know what the fuss is all about either, it's certainly not unheard of for mares to carry this long.
Did anyone know that the average for a donkey is 54 weeks, some can go a full 14 months!

Congratulations to all at Hollesbay Stud. Even more so as it is a filly, what a start to the year.
Well done to everyone especially the people who tirelessly fought to raise the funds to buy the stud from the prison service when it was under threat. Having all the facilities including a visitor centre can hopefully help the plight of these magnificant horses.
