Suffolk Punch X

PM TheresaW - she has one and he is lovely.

Suffolks are a lovely breed, though I personally prefer the Clydesdale, mainly because we have one and they are just a bit more active and less chunky than the Suffolks.

The Suffolks we have met to date have been very docile and sweet natured and (sorry to sound rude) a little ploddy when compared to the Clydes who are the most agile of the heavy horse breeds.

They make lovely hunters when crossed with TBs.

Suffolks are lovely. Not all heavies are ploddy

He's definitely not ploddy. Really forward going and if he was human he would be whistling to himself when we go out. Think he's crossed with TB so he's not too heavy. Will find a picture to put up of him.

Was not saying heavies are ploddy - quite the opposite. I am a huge fan of riding heavies, old Cairo has done everything from dressage to XC over the years.

What I did say was that all the suffolks I have met have been far more docile and quiet compared to the shires and clydies.

My OH had a day learning to harness up and long rein heavies and it was the suffolks they used for novices as they are so steady and gentle.

I admit being very biased to the clydesdale - this is by far my favorite of the heavies and I particularly like the smaller lighter work type, which is what we have - 16.3 of beautiful hairy horse.

Quite agree with you there, not that I am biased at all owning a Clydie x

! Who is definetly not ploddy! Out he will out race any of the TB's

Suffolks are not ploddy at all. I have Suffolk Cross and he is now way a plod. I admit he is in the school, as he hates it, although he can work nicely if you press the right buttons.

Out hacking he is a complete LOOOOOON
