I have long been a fan of the Suffolk Punch. I just think they are gorgeous with wonderful calm temperaments. I was wondering if anyone has any experience of them being ridden? I know there are a few suffolk x's around but I mean the full breed. Have seen a few photos of ridden Suffolks but would value some thoughts or experiences of this..... whispers* am pondering going down this route and maybe tracking down a yearling*... :o :D

I have what we think is a SPcross and he is absolutely lovely! Huge chap, not so tall at just 16hh, but really square one-foot-in-each-corner kind of horse, with a lovely temperament, can be ridden by anyone and doesn't take advantage with his size and very nice moving as well! Can you tell I love him?!!

Im with you, I love them and would love one but OH says 2 nags is enough....hope you do get one tho I will be green with envy. Before moving to Scottishland I used to go to the Suffolk spectacular in Suffolk each year, it was fab and a great place to spot a nice foaly :-))) One year there was a stunning Suffolk x TB foaly there, who was gorgeous.

Theres a couple of Suffolk mules like Woody and Ruby

I love SPs and want to get one one day. I used to ride out and come across one with it's rider and it seemed lovely, she had two dogs and the terrier would ride on the SP with her lol.

My dad knows a good breeder if you do decide to look, can find and pass on details if you want them. From what my dad says he likes talking about them so could probably help with your ridden questions. I believe he is part of the scheme trying to breed them to ensure the do not become extinct.

One of them looks like a chestnut donkey...

I love draughts btw, think they're a great ridden horse :)

This is Mac who 3/4 Suffolk. The only thing not Suffolk about him is his small feet. He is a gentle giant, and despite what the dopey eyes would have you believe, is very intelligent. He has also got quite a jump in him, but we don't jump any more because of his arthritis.

Ooh, have you been in touch with Mike from here?

Seeing as it's right next door to your potential new yard??? ;)

Dom and I had a right ole chat with him at Burwarton show... nice man

Yes, I was thinking about him. His Suffolks at Burwarton were just gorgeous, especially the little ginger baby! We had a very quick chat but he was about to go in the ring. Might give him a try :)

Mike has a few of my mares daughters at his yard! I used to trim for him before i moved away from the area.

If you go on the Suffolk Society website the horses for sale section he has a few for sale (mainly some older breeding mares though). http://www.suffolkhorsesociety.org.uk/suffolks-for-sale/ The worcester ones are his. Ravens Tor Raggetty is one of my mares daughters and she has had a few foals herself now.

Both of his main stallions are lovely my wife and I especially liked Charlie but i see Prince is now for sale.

Mike and Alison have the largest Suffolk Stud in the UK. (if the information is still up to date)

Thanks, your girly is just lovely. The more I see of them, the more I like.

All these posts have made me think I should go and maybe have a chat to someone who might be able to point me in the direction of a lovely ginger baby! :D
