I tryed to soak only a little bit of sugar beet as only have one horse now who doesnt eat much. I obviously put to much water in with it as the day after alot was sugar beet water.

Does this make the sugar beet go off quicker? because it was the 3rd day it had been soaked and didnt look as fluffy and a bit werid today. How long can you keep used sugar beet? I also didnt put a cover on it does this make a difference?

i always have my sugar beet sloppy- its how mine like it. ;)

never found it to go off any quicker than if drier.

i only ever soak what i'd use in a day- but only have three horses to feed so its easier than those who have a whole yard to feed!

as regards it going off- if it is warm i'd only soak enough for one day- if its the middle of winter max of two days. (personally)

eta. i always cover mine, and please remember to wash the container you make it up in on a very regular basis- otherwise it goes off quicker- you'll find a lovely layer of slime on the surface of the bucket if not cleaned.... :S xx

It's best to soak your sugarbeet daily as it does start to ferment in warm weather - not so much of a problem in the winter.

The best ratio I've found is to use double the volume of water to sugarbeet - eg 1 cup dried sugarbeet soaked in 2 cups water. This gives a mix that will damp the feed without having a load of water left over.

Second this! Also if you soak it in your feed bucket in the morning, then just add your feed at teatime and you've saved on washing up!

I use speedibeet and soak as I use it.
It's the first thing I do when I get to the yard in winter and by the time I've had a cuppa and changed rugs it's ready, then I let the horse eat it when I go and break the ice in the water tough

I like it when it has more water in it, my mare doesn't drink a lot so it helps her with her water intake, she loves 'beet tea!'

I soak mine for the amount I need which is half a scoop dry a day. I make mine a little sloppy as its easier to get it out of bucket and my boys like it like that. I find if i leave it to be used over longer periods of time it smells so I then dont feed it and gets wasted.
