My tb is currently on speedi-beet but I'm wondering if this is the best thing for her. She's also on a balancer, chaff and as much readigrass as she wants. I don't need her to have any more energy at the moment, but she needs more weight on her.

In terms of value for money and bulking up, which sugar beet variety do you recommend?

I use speedibeet for my stressy poor doer. It is quick soaking and unmollassed, I wouldn't want to give her a mollassed version, and I think kwickbeet is lower calorie. If you want to add weight without fizzing up try adding micronised linseed, it gives them a gorgeous coat too! Or just a glug of sunflower oil works to add weight, that was what I did last year, this year I'm using linseed as it has other benefits as well as just adding weight.

Have to say I prefer the speedi-beet type of product. May be a little more in money than others but you only have to make up as much as you need, no odd amounts left over, it doesn't go off, and small animals can't get at it as possibly they do when you have had to make a bucket of the stuff in advance

Currently finishing off a bag of mollased stuff (bought it by accident) and I have to say it is horrible stuff, needs 24 hour soaking and is a pain, doesn't seem to have made a difference to my TB in behaviour or feet, but is a good carrier for her vits and mins

I use just the normal sugar beet, my mare gets fizzy on most mixes but I found that sugar beet doesn't fizz her up at all and at £7.50 a bag I don't think you Can go wrong it lasts for ages and really helps with her weight
