Sugar Beet Pulp

Local feed store no longer stocks Speedi-Beet or Fibre Beet, so I bought a bag of Sugar Beet Pulp Nuts instead, it was only €6.50 (about £4.50) for a 25kg bag, so I thought it was worth a try. As it's the feed stores own brand, there aren't any recommendations as to what to feed, so I was wondering what would be the correct amount to feed Ali? I'll still be feeding him Gowla Cooked Mix and Baileys Outshine, and he gets ad-lib hay when he's in at night (he's stabled every night), and he currently has access to good quality grazing during the day. Also, once the sugar beet pulp nuts are soaked for 24 hours, how long can they be kept for? Do I have to use everything straight away or can I prepare some Friday morning and still use it Saturday evening? Thanks in advance

I can fed upto 1 scoop dry weight of sugar beet to my 16.1 TB alongside alf alfa.
It will keep for a couple of days if the weather is cold, if it's warm weather I'd use it within 24hrs.
I would have thought 1/2 a scoop dry weight split between two feeds would be ok along side the other stuff. It looks alot soaked, but it's mostly moisture remember.

If you can keep it cool (even in the fridge!) once made up, it will keep better but it still needs to be used within 24 hours; also, with nuts, if you use very hot water they will soak much quicker (just overnight) and if you give it a good stir you will be able to check there aren't any dry lumps; you might need more water than shreds too. If it at all smells sour then don't use it. Also don't forget, it's got more energy that Speedibeet so you might need to feed less! Although I'll use the quick stuff in the summer, I always go back to 'proper' sugar beet in the winter, apart from anything else, it's much cheaper and I find the horses far prefer it; for a few days they'll turn their noses up at the sugarless stuff!
