Can ne one tell me the difference between sugar peet cubes, flakes and shredded and which is best speedi-beet or 24hr soak?
thanx

i was going to ask this Q the other day!
i dont think there is much difference, the pellets are alot cheeper though, so i went for the pellets, instead of the speedibeet

Some beet products have extra molasses added, whilst others don't. Personally, I feel the unmolassed products are better for horses. Speedibeet is unmollassed. The standard sugar beet cubes you get from the feed merchant are usually molassed, but you can get unmolassed beet in cube form as well. Cubes are more compressed than shreds or flakes so need longer to soak.

I prefer speedi-beet because it is unmolassed and because it doesn't take long to soak.

In the summer I use speedibeet as it is quick and I can soak it ,ride, then feed it, if I soak sugarbeet it has to sit for 12 hours[ shreds ] or 24 hours [nuts] and it tends to get flies on it and go off quickly. The speedibeet is more expensive ,so in winter when I use more I buy shreds, soak at night and feed some in the morning and then the rest in the even ing and make up a new lot.
I buy unmollassed as I don't like my horse to have too much sugar

Its difficult to find SB cubes or pellets that dont have added mollasses, I think its added mollassses that gives SB the reputation for fizzing horses up, when actualy its an excellent source of fibre. Speedibeet has no added mollasses and is quick to soak, so I tend to use it in the summer when I need some straight away. In the winter I use simple system SB pellets, they are cheaper and need to be soaked 24 hours - but have no added ingredienbts.

If you buy the normal sugar beet shreds, you can easily use them in 2 hrs of soaking as they hardly swell up much, pellets overnight. In america they dont soak beet at all! not recommending this mind!
