Inspired by Oberons recent postings about forage analysis I have been seriously thinking about what I feed my girls. I have been in contact with ForagePlus and am currently deciding whether to go ahead with a grazing analysis and have also tried to find the analysis of my haylage online as I feed branded bales.

I feed HorseHage timothy and Devon Haylage ryegrass and whilst looking up the info I found that HorseHage quote the sugar content of all their products ( less than 3% ) but Devon Haylage don't.

I have contacted them to find out but am not sure what is an excessive % for haylage. About what level of sugar content should I be looking for please?

Sugars are usually lower in haylage than hay because of the fermentation process. Generally, in hard feeds, under 10% sugar is considered low but obviously the lower the better. So 3% is very good.
