Anyone know the sugar content of Hi-fi lite (it does contain molasses and doesnt give the value on the website) and other fibre feeds for laminitics from different companies? Reason being I have just had my hay analysed and it is 5.8% sugar which I think is relatively low and I wanted to compare it to bucket fibre feeds with the view of not having to soak the hay anymore if it is comparible.

Hi, many thanks. Unfortunately no forage will have zero sugar but I was interested to know the difference. As an experiment I am having the same hay sample tested after soaking so I can see what the drop in sugar level is and to the usefulness of soaking. Its just that getting enough water to soak my hay when I have 2 in at the moment is proving difficult and I have a useful friend who works in a lab so the testing doesnt cost me anything!
Just to add I worked in the feed industry and know that when it comes to labelling there is a plus and minus tolerance on the level of any nutrient quoted to allow for variations in raw materials. So 4% they quote might be on the lower limit so that it sounds better!!! When the true value may be more!
