With all the recognition of Ulcers being heightened I was wondering what treats you are all giving your GGs? After trawling through many packets and scrutinising the ingredients I am yet to find any such product offering sugar free or cereal free! The only one I can find seems to be Dr Tasty Treats?

Anyone else found anything they could recommend or even a recipe I could cook myself.

Many thanks.

Thats VERY spooky, was only thinking the same thing yesterday, what do people give their lami prones for treats ?

Will look into the hilton herbs and Dr Tasty Treats, think I asked for a free sample the other day, there was an offer on facebook

I use linseed biscuits. You have to be carefule as some have added mollasses, but you can get some which don't have any added. Admittedly they do contain some wheat (flour/wheat feed) as a binding agent, but are generally better than the extruded sweets you get :)

I feed hilton herballs too, base of Alfalfa, Linseed and Wheat Flour whereas the naf are wheat/barley/chalk based.

volume wise I'm not sure it makes any difference though it's not like he gets many (only for stretches!)

I bought Herballs for my cushings boy, though I can't feed them anyway as they have linseed and he can't have that either. I've always found horses love Herballs.
Does anyone know of anything sugar and linseed free?!

If you are sensible as to how many treats you give your horse a slice or two of carrot, apple or even Polo's. Just remember that you don't treat for the hell of it.

Give a treat as a reward for good work or behaviour. My Clydesdale, gets an extra strong mint when I catch her, one when I finish working her and one when I turn her out. That's quite enough and the sugar content isn't much more than a few blades of grass.
