Suggest a stallion for me please

I'd like to put my filly in foal next year with the intention of breeding an eventer type. The foal would most likely be kept by me, but I'd like to breed something that was 'saleable'; so a stallion with a respected name/ reputation would be good, and ideally a proven competition record

My filly is full TB and has been placed at county show level/ Bramham in Sport horse/ 3 day event horse classes.

I like fine horses, with plenty of blood, so don't want the stallion to add too much chunk and would really like a 'modern' type if we're talking about warmbloods.

I think she has good paces, but would like to add more knee action and a bit more 'flash

I'd like an uphill front end as she has a low set on neck. The stallion would also need to have fab front legs, as if I'm being really critical of her they aren't 100% straight set on from the knee down

I'm also happy to use a stallion being marketed for dressage, so long as there is a jumping line in there somewhere, if he'd really compliment her.

I'd like to use fresh/ chilled semen, and budget is up to £1000.

So, what do you all think?

have a look at Contis, I saw him recently and he is just lovely. I think he would suit your mare very well. I just had a lovely filly by Stallone Quainton too, so you may want to have a look at him, not an out and out eventer, but he is a boy who can jump and who is very expressive in movement.
 
Nothing to do with suggesting a stallion but on your last picture the chestnut just appearing on the left of the picture is mine! Woohoo!!
 
Thanks for those suggestions- they are all on my mental 'list' but I've not seen any of them in the flesh...... I'd really like a good look at their limbs

i saw a couple of nice event stallions at badminton this year and one that looked the nicest to me was chilli morning (nick gauntlet) he was so well balanced, had a fab jump and lovely movement, of course, i couldnt get close enough to pick his confo apart but the overall picture was stunning, also another nice one was 'up with the lark' both very nice!! IMO

I might email and ask, as Chilli has a good record. Also I think he's only available frozen, but that might change for next year?
 
For a seriously modern warmblood/sportshorse I would use El Thuder. He has all the warmblood breeding, with Argentinus, etc and so seriously moves and jumps but also has a lot of TB in there and is himself very blood. All his foals are very typey and modern. We have one out of an ISH x Oldenburg mare who is not heavy but certainly not light at all and this is what we got!

Godington Hannibal..he's at the same stud as Contis in Oxford. He has a fab eventing record making the Swedish short list for Athens in 2004, he stamps his stock with beautiful heads & fabulous limbs & a lovely trainable temperament. I sent my PBA mare to him last year & have the most beautiful colt now. Don't know how to load pics but here he is.

Doesn't tick the box of progeny but take a look at Springfield Symphony. (Springs) owner and they are on here.
 
What about Billy Be Cool, he was the british eventing 4 year old champion and is a real blood warmblood type, and very uphill. He would be commercial. By Vetcha who has also sired lots of v.v. promising 'Billy' eventers.

Of course I don't mind the pic. At least you can't see much of me!! ;-) Didn't have a suitable jacket to wear in the ring so just wore me waistcoat. Couldn't afford a jacket just for an odd show here and there. Thankyou aswell about his head. When I bought him as a foal he was a little piggy eyed little thing and nowt to look at and he is growing into a right handsome lad.

I've been looking at the billy stud tonight, and the Billy be cool page...... I actually quite like cevin Z, I remember seeing him on a Pippa DVD thing a few years ago and thinking he was a nice personality, but had forgoten about him untill tonight. His foals look really smart as well. Does anyone know if he's still being competed?
 
Yes William still jumps him, very nice grey horse. W&P are next door so if you need an over night come stay with us.
 
Ps I think you should consider Billy Mexico son of Cevin Z Chesnut very nice and has the knee action you asked about.
 
Any TB registered at Weatherbys is eligible for Grading Hanoverian and the foal would be branded if you used a foal branded Hanoverian stallion. This would give you a fall back position if the stallion you first chose did not fulfill you ambitions with the foal. Semen prices should be about £500 for the best stallion you have the vets fees on top ect to fall within your £1000 budget. Remember endurance is not the way eventing is going. Jumping and an ability to work are more important. The event gelding I bred has gone from 0 to 31 points this year and came 3 out of 70 in the NRF and he is warmblood by licensed stallion .
 
Merit (Ire) fab big moving TB was in Yorkshire now in Wales. Really hansome with a lovely temperment and move! you wouldn't believe he was a TB and ex racehorse.
SHGB overall Champion 1999.
 
If you like the look of Springfield Symphony, have a look at his sire Kings Composer. The Dalcotes site needs up dating and the pics are not great, but Kings' record as a sire and still only a young horse himself, relatively speaking, speaks for itself. His stock do consistently well in the show ring and at the BEF. He has sired at least 1 Grade A sjer that I know of and has a fair few coming up levels in eventing. You honest comment about your filly's front legs really makes me think this would be a good match, as not only is my own youngster by King correct out of a mare that could be better, as I used to live in Cornwall, I have seen a lot of King babies and they are all correct.
 
I agree I have seen Kings Composer in the flesh, a while ago now at the National Stud on a Stallion parade Gorgeous. He is now AI I believe too.
 
I have first-hand experience of both Primo Pageant and Billy Be Cool. They are both stunning stallions with wonderful temperaments. I put my coloured mare in foal to Billy Be Cool and am thrilled with my beautiful filly foal. Fred and Lisa are really knowledgeable and helpful, especially to first-timers like me! I suggested this on another thread, so don't want to sound boring. Grafenstolz is for me the consumate eventing stallion for tb mares. I haven't seen another stallion in England that has anything like his movement, or scope and only one or two have marginally better records (although none have been World Champions like Grafenstolz). I saw him at a little event at Moreton Morrell last month and he really is superb in his work, and his temperament was really to die for. I also noticed when I saw him stripped of afterwards, that he has almost perfect conformation.

When I ordered the semen, Twemlows told me that he was over 85% first cycle pregnancy this year. At 1000€ I found him really good value, especially as my vet fees were so small because she only needed inseminating once. In the end only £200. The vet tested it at over 90% motile!!!! That's why he has such a good pregnancy rate.

And as for not seeing another stallion to match movement & scope, well I think Cash Point's connections would agree to disagree on that. And yes it is boring when a poster comes on just to promot a stallion no different to Billy Cool. Others have been slated for doing just that. It makes no difference to me what so ever, but it is a tad unfair that some people have been called for it & it is an insult to ones intelligence to expect us to believe that it is nothing more the blantant promotion. If my memory serves me correctly KR accused HTobago's owner of doing exactly what you & Billy Cools connections are doing. Oh welcome to the forum by the way. Hopefully this time we may get to see some photos of your mares & foals.
