I have killed another pair of yard boots bought in September. They were Hy ones and were comfy and kept my feet warm.
I am looking to replace them but since yard boots only seem to last me 3 months I am torn on what to do.
I do the yard in the mornings, 11 horses to do, muck out and turnout etc so could do with something a little bit water resistant. Doesn’t need to be mega waterproof though. I have used wellies for this…
Then I ride a few horses, up to 8. So a put neat enough to ride in. If I only have wellies I have ridden in wellies though I don’t like this and then if I want a photo of the horse I am riding you end up looking like an idiot as I had awful pink wellies because that’s all the shop had ??
Then on the afternoons/ evenings I will go teaching. I will occasionally jump on a horse but it’s mostly standing around getting cold.
Now you can see how I am the boot killer. I spend all day in them and they just wear out.
Do I replace with one pot of boots or do I get wellies for the yard, riding boots for the riding or a „country“ boots for riding and it teaching?
I got a flack for the pink welly period when I just lived in them!! I am reluctant to spend loads on footwear as it’s doesn’t last me more than 2/3 months but then again I need to be comfortable as I am on my feet all day. I am inclined for wellies to do yard and then smarter boots for riding/ teaching. Ideas please!
(Also if you are boot manufacturer and you need someone to test them I am your person!)

I would get different riding boots from yard boots, it only takes 30 second to change boots before and after riding. My riding boots live in my tack room so I just change boots when I fetch/replace the tack.

Currently I have Ariat Bromonts for riding (that I've had for about 7 years), and have some Harry Hall field boot type yard boots (have done a lot of walking in these as well as the yard and they are still solid, waterproof and comfortable after 9 months).

I also have separate boots, although my yard boots are the Ariat ones with the zip so they are suitable for riding with chaps, if I want.

I have had Mountain horse ones also, I used to live in their Jodhpur/stable boots. If I wore every day, they would last a year. They would do about 4-5 months waterproof before the first hole appeared but would last the year as long as I liked a bit of ventilation.

Not a fashion conscious suggestion but what about rubber riding boots? Do the job of wellies, you can ruse safely in them and they're cheap.

Alternatively what about muckers/duck boots? Warm, waterproof and you can ride in them. Woof Wear have an ankle height pair that are around £40

I have had my Mountain Horse warm lined, lace up, short winter riding boots for 20 years and wear the matching chaps when riding. I wore the boots when helping on the yard. But I would not wear them in deep water. And like all riding boots they are very slippy on ice.
OH polishes all my black leather riding boots.

I wear an ancient pair of ariat bromonts that have now done 5 winters of riding and yard work. Admittedly not as many hours as you do per day. Every year I think is their last and they keep going. When they die I’ll see if I can get a second hand pair from eBay, even if someone else has used them for a couple of years, they’ll probably last a few more.

I absolutely hate riding in country boots so I always change mine and most of my boots are mountain horse I find they are the best for warmth fit and durability.
I have a massive range of there riding boots, short boots and country boots and just tend to stick with them.

The only other boots I would recommend is the ariat conniston I had a pair given to me and although it was a very long time ago they lasted and I dog walked, rode and did everything in them and it took a long time for them to wear out.

i have a pair of cabbotswood country boots that have been worn daily for the past 3 years and are still okay, and i’ve ridden in them too. planning on getting some ariat coniston pro’s though because i want some that are zip up and can be tightened for stick thin calves and i’ve read good things about their longevity! the cabbotswood ones only cost about £60 i think, seem to be on sale often:)

I have wellies for yard and jod boots and chaps for riding as would kill anything else. The big problem is surfaces kills boots as well and then you need something supportive to teach in or will screw your feet and legs. I can’t ride in country boots at all as too thick and so you lose a lot of sensitivity as I mostly ride off my calf.
