Suggestions for economical towing/family car

We're looking for a 7 seater 4x4 type car that can tow our big horsey with ease but is still fairly fuel efficient and reliable? Must have 7 seats because we have a big family.

Will have to be used as our budget will not stretch to a new car (unless I sell the geegees but then we'd no longer need a new car!! )

Any ideas? I'm clueless when it comes to car.

Unfortunately there is no such thing! Nothing that is big enough to tow will be economical, the two just dont go together. I would recommend an Izusu Trooper, they are cheap to buy and tow very well, they are designed to do the job, but they are 3L so thirsty. Having said that I wouldnt tow with a vehicle under 2.8L anyway.

I think if you need 7 seats you'll have to get a discovery.

We like the look of the Citroen C crosser, reasonably economical, back 2 seats are tiny though and they are expensive and like hens teeth!

We've got a Nissan Terrano with 7 seats that would do the job but it's not economical! We actually run 3 cars cos, given how long we plan to keep the 4x4 for, it does work out cheaper to run a supermini for my daily commute rather than use the 4x4
