teaching pony camp for kids at the moment, and i could really do with some inspriation. its only riding school camp, so different levels, wish they were catagorised, as it would make my like easier. stuff i have i think is repeditive for some kids, who have done camp before. now, none of the kids that prev did camp could remember all parts of bridle/saddle, but would love some new material, without geting too technical. they are between 6 and 11. please???

When I teach stable management I always go for the grooming kit and go through each of the brushes, letting the kids try them out and teach them when and where they should be used.
From this we usually have a bash at plaiting as this seem to be a massive hit :) just make sure you have a saint of a pony to work with ;)
Game wise - head, shoulders, knees and toes is a good one that you can adapt to teach them the basic points of a horse.

I've got loads more lesson plans somewhere in the house that I can dig out tomorrow if you want :)

One that always went down well at PC camp was "What's wrong with this?" which leads naturally onto why is it wrong etc.

We would doctor a stable with hazards, like a fork left against a wall, a haynet hanging low, an unfixed water pail, not enough bedding, string in the bed etc, etc and the children would go in in teams or pairs, older ones with younger ones and write it down.

We'd do the same with tack/kit. Blankets too big, un-fastened, etc, halters dangling, bandages on too loose, bridle too big, keepers unfastened, noseband/reins/stirrup leathers twisted, girth too loose etc.
