My horse got very nappy on old yard because of his companion, we have how moved (moved to new field and all 7 horses have just arrived so no real chance to get Pecking order/attachment bonds yet....

I want to know who i should go about taking him out for the first time (walk him in hand or ride him) (I don't know the bridle paths yet) I know he was taking the piss at the last yard as when he was ridden out by instructor from his yard at his place for first time he didn't put a foot wrong.

He is a young horse, I want to go at it with the attitude of "you will not take the piss out of me, we will learn the bridle paths together" attitude.

If he prefers company and hacking alone is a real problem, then take him for short walks. Ideally 2 or 3 times a day then ride the same short route frequently, then extend it and add in a new path every week. That will be harder if there is no choice of routes, of course. Avoid turning round to come home if you can. Try and find loops.

If you can go with a experienced hacking buddy to give your horse confidence. Keep it short initially and get your horse used to the routes. Take opportunities to lead where you feel safe ans after a few weeks try doing the route alone. Same with other routes. With experience comes confidence. Happy hacking.
