I am moving to Suffolk - somewhere between BSE and Stowmarket and need suggestions for good vets and Farriers.

My big boy has shivers and so needs an understanding farrier who doesnt get mad with him when he snatches his foot back (he is 17hh so you dont really have a choice). He currently has sedalin when being shoed but present farrier still has a job on that leg.

Any suggestions welcome - also of any other horse suppliers etc as I wont know where anything is! Horses will be at home so wont need livery.

Thanks!;)

Pakenham Mill is good and cheap for feed, bedding etc, and deliver. Stuart Durrant is a good farrier based near Stowmarket, can let you know his number if you pm me, he's a typical 'gruff' farrier but underneath is lovely. Another farrier is Simon Curtis who is the remedial farrier for Rossdales Equine Hospital but also does private, again not sure how far they'd go though. Website here: http://www.curtisfarrier.com/farriers/index.html

Rossdales in Newmarket is world renowned for vet but don't know if they'd go that far?? If not, Swayne & Partners in Bury St Edmunds is also good.

Lots of ideas for you.
For feed, bedding etc CWG in Bury
Or you could travel a little bit further to Charnwood, Framlingham who do their own feeds which are really good quality. Allan & Page are not too far away either.
As for farriers there are a few really good ones, some just a little bit out of your area- admit I only know the ones Stowmarket, Ipswich side, Richard Fishenden, being one. Take a look at the farriers registration website, there would be a lot the other side of Bury who would come that way.If you want any info pm me and I will see if I can help on that one.
Tack etc. Mills Saddlery, Stowmarket do not rip you off pricewise like some, always have bedding and feed available and an excellent saddler / saddle fitter.
If I can help you in anyway let me know as I spent a fair few years slighty further east, so you may be able to pick my brains. I love Suffolk!!!

Thanks guys, I cant wait to move. I am near the Cambs / Lincolnshire border at the moment and have always loved the Suffolk countryside - it is just hilly enough to look pretty and yet not so hilly to be too hard to cycle and walk around ;) (I am so lazy!)
