My friend and l are trying to think of something we could do together to make us some money, which l know is not easy, but has anyone got any ideas?? Sorry its a bit vague, but l thought you lot might be able have some ideas??!!Thanks

Honestly, cleaning is a really good way to make money and you keep the hours you want pretty much. If you offer more specialised services such as visiting houses when owners are away to remove post, shopping etc - then you may get even more work. Look at Phoenix Trading (the card company). Some of their people do quite well out of it.

Im thinking about becoming a HIP inspector because the training is short, the money's good and you can go freelance and work around the horses. Not the most popular career choice, but Im pretty loathsome already so this career move shouldn't make much difference

I also buy cheap and nasty orange pine furniture, sand it down, paint/wax it and sell it on at a fairly decent profit, what about that, or what about house/horse sitting?

Or what about buying cheap ponies/horses, schooling on and selling - have done that in the past with reasonable success.

I do not inhabit a caravan, sell sprigs of heather or wear fake gold, honest

I would like to say that it involves checking out John Travolta style hip movements but its actually a Home Information Pack inspector - one step lower than an estate agent (but morally more respectable than an axe murderer)

HIP - Home Information Pack which you need to sell your house with if it has 4 or more bedrooms I think. All sellers will need it in the future. Not sure where the inspector comes in?

Paper round on horse back :P. Not a business as such. Or what about pony/horse nannying, go to people yards and look after there neds while ther eon holiday:?

As an estate agent would say you are wasting your time with becoming a HIP inspector. The training is expensive and there are loads of them. Do not listen to the hype about what can be gained it is incorrect. I have seen several houses with 2 double bedrooms and a study which is perfectly acceptable as no such thing as no definition of a 3 bed house. Secondly the housing market is diabolical at the moment and there is a real lack of fresh stock coming on to the market so there are not many houses to do anyway.

On a suggestion of jobs: I would LOVE reliable help over the winter. I want to go away over crimbo but cannot leave my horse. I last left him in someone elses care 2 years ago and they were unreliable and did a bad job. So my OH will go to Bedfordshire and I will be stuck here.

having been self employed for several years just bear in mind there is no sick pay, holiday pay and if you really want to make it work then it is down to you, I do 17 hour days in the summer and still have to find time for my horse, but if you really want to you can do anything

mobile groom? saw the idea recently and thought it sounded ace... looking after peoples horses whilst they are on holiday. Should make you some money if you want to do it over xmas - my yard for one are charging £50 a day to bring in and muck out!
