Hello,

Just realised what is raw diet really mean to me and my four legs friends.

Something I am not sure the differences from purchase human grade and pet grade cheap cut, would anyone kindly share your knowledge?

By getting started, I would like to have a directory of the food supplier. (I prefer the whole one, rather than commercial minces, I would have a better understanding what am I feeding on them =) )

So would you please kindly recommend your favourite one and which are to avoid maybe?

Natural Instinct sell 'complete' boxed and bagged raw meat (with ground bone included) and bones which are good but can wind up pricey. Their plastic containers are very handy though.

DUCK is a good frozen complete food which replicates a 'wild' diet.

Prize Choice does frozen blocks of lots of different kinds of meat which are convenient but compared to what I am feeding now (from a private supplier) the meat seems a bit 'washed out'.

The chicken carcasses I buy are human grade and I get a lot from the butchers as well.

Sounds odd but if there is a greyhound track or a greyhound trainer near you, that is a really good place to source tripe and minced meat as the better trainers do feed their dogs well and you can get good bulk deals from suppliers.

Landywoods, Berriewoods, Durham Animal Feeds are other suppliers.

I have ordered from Berriewoods this time - I have bought from Bulmer Dog Foods in the past and never had a problem! Berriewoods were the only ones that could deliver to me before Xmas (I didn't realise how late I left it ooops!)

I am going to try landywoods in the new year. They have a big variety and the prices seem fair - lamb tripe = 42p per lb. I have a pricelist pm me if you would like me to email it to you!

With regards to feeding human grade food - this means there aren't going to be any nasty chemicals or contamination in the food and I feel happier feeding my dog food fit for human consumption.

I don't like prize choice or nature:menu neither seem to agree with my pooch!

I also regularly get boxes of chicken carcasses free from the butcher!

Thank you for your explain on the food grading.
Currently looking for a low cost supplier, at the moment Landywoods seems to have a more comparative price than others. Any goods?
 
We changed from Landywoods to DAF last year as I found Landywoods to be a bit unreliable re delivery times and bringing the right order. I like DAF product better, not so wet.
 
We use Bulmers ox tripe/head meat coarse mince and would never change.If deliveries are difficult and we get close to running out we even drive and fetch it,Kent to Melton Mowbray!:oIt is just the best.Our chook frames come from a processing plant in Canterbury.The two combined plus an egg or two now and then to ours seem the perfect diet.
 
I get my dog food from a local butcher that also has an abattoir next door, much cheaper than the like of Landywoods or Berriewoods, but granted it does not come in little hermetically sealed packages :D

I get a variety of things - pigs tongues (they are gross, but the dogs love them :confused:), tripe, minced chicken (including bones), hearts, liver, and chicken carcasses. The most I pay is 1.30 per kg, but I do feed over 75kg a month :D

I found the place just by googling abattoirs in my county :)
 
Landywoods has very two extreme sides of feedback, so I ain't too sure about it.
One advantage would be somebody fetch it to your door rather than pop out to buy. However, I have heard their delivery service is not realizable.

I have 42kg total weight of dogs need to feed. Would anyone give a rough idea to me how much would the food cost per month?

I am still waiting for the britbarf group in yahoo for approval' hopefully I could get some directory to get the best for value food for doggies.

Still a newbie to raw food diet. Can we feed tripe to dogs? I heard that we should avoid disgestion system offal because these are mostly where worms host?

We feed approx 80kg of dogs and it costs approx £60 a month, for 42Kg you would be looking at about half that or less depending what you feed. We buy the bulk packs of minces but also feed pheasant, rabbit, duck and fish which are more expensive.
