Discovered D in his friend's field today (next door to his) munching away. Poor poppet had a little bump on the inside of his hock but no other injures.

Question is how did he get in there? 5 bar gate was shut and all double post and rail was intact. Could a 14.1hh connie really jump either of these?? How did he get in the other field? I'm wracking my brains as I don't want him to get injured but really can't think how he got in there.

Yep, some little jumper you will have there. Connies make great WHP so you may have a HOYS worker in your field.

My sisters boy is a 14.2hh cob who will jump whatever height and width needed when the grass looks greener on the other side. The only we keep him where he is supposed to be is to cater to his every wish, including whatever company he wants and whatever food he wants. It is a good job he isn't fat so we can do it ok but it is really better to give him what he wants than have him jump out.

He has jumped out before onto the lane and walked about 500yards back up to the yard to the indoor school where I was riding and then as soon as I went after him he was already headed towards his stable. Spoilt boy does what he wants and there isn't much we could do to stop him, believe me we tried.

Haha! What a cheeky lad.

I wouldn't mind but I have been teaching him to jump on the lunge (he's only 4) and he has been really uninterested by the whole thing (its much easier to kick the poles then jump!) Obviously when there is lush grass the other side of the fence its another matter!
 
Where theres Motivation... (with a capital "M" :D )

My 14.3 welsh x jumped a 5 bar gate uphill and made it to the other side without a scratch on him. It has to be said that the evidence suggests that he had a tangle with the electric fence:rolleyes:

He has also been known to jump out of his stable over a standard size door :rolleyes:

Needless to say - I have NOT worked on encouraging mine to jump!!! :D

So I am not totally surprised... :D :D
 
I have an escape artist!!
13hh forester, was kept on a very large piece of common land with others.
Could'nt work out why he was putting weight on while the others werent.
he was always were he should have been when we checked.
Until one day he was'nt there, we walked around looking for him, until he was spotted, in a field across a stream ( new lay grass).
To get in the field he had to go down a steep bank, pick his way across boggy ground, over fallen trees, and then jump the stream.
We blocked it off thinking he could'nt get through, but he still did, wi'll still managing to be were he should be when we checked!
Now thats clever!!
He is now in his summer residence, managed to keep him behind lecy fence for nearly a week, he was out in the main field tonight.
He does'nt know it yet, but he''l be wearing his muzzle tomorrow.

just had a text to say my 23month 11hh section a has put himself in the next field with the other horses. Jumped a 4 foot dry stone wall to get there. He started off in that field but escaped to be with the big hairies last week so we left him there. What can we do !!!!!
 
Definitely possible! My 14.2hh who would NEVER jump anything on his own (he's terrified of trotting poles), jumped a 4ft plus fence (it was extra high wooden rail) when he was on loan in order to get a mare they put in the next field. They put him back in his own field and he did it again except that time he didn't judge it as well and sliced his shoulder open. Aftet having him treated they decided it'd be safer to leave him with the mare!

That was another reason that we thought he was a rig as he would have never ever done that to get to a field with geldings in.
