I have a 16.2 dutch draft. She's pretty much 16.2 all over and the struggle really is her head size.

I want a brown leather hunter bridle for her to match her saddle but I'm so worried about buying an extra full because it's probably not going to fit. Some say draft/heavy/shire size but even those I'm not sure on as have had others recommend that something will fit as fits their shire and it doesn't come close.

So any recommendations appreciated. I'm not in a rush as she does have a bridle.

Try English Bridles. I was seriously impressed with them when I bought my bridle. Friendly service, excellent quality and beautiful bridles at a decent price. They do mix and match and made to measure and will give you advice on how to measure.

Blue Horse Equine also do draft sizing - very helpful if you email / call them.

But see if you can find an extra full to try on. When the Ardennes was in ridden work I had his french link on his super-sized bridle and bought an extra full for the pelham. I had to punch an additional hole on the very end of the noseband (it wasn't long enough to go through the keepers) and the browband was too small, so that needed to be super sized - but otherwise OK and a lot cheaper than getting another huge bridle.

His head is especially large. If your horse is bigger headed than him I'm impressed!

Excuse for a v old Ardennes photo in an extra full bridle. Odd angle because our photographer was uphill on a 16h TB!

thank you will look at both!

She has such a wide head. Brow band being wide enough, throat lash being long enough, nose band being long enough to do up are issues haha

We had to have noseband and brow bands made for our biggest girls. The Westphalian Kalt Blud came with a bridle that squished her ears, so she inherited the "big bridle" that the original Clydie had. We have found that the only way to get a bridle to fit is to buy seperate bits and bobs and build our own, with specially made brown bands and nose bands. It has probably not cost any more than buying one ready made in super size :)

I feel your pain... Ihave may gelding in an English Bridles XF bridle, but I still need to get a custom made browband, as the XF off the peg is too small :/

I bought a Jeffries hunter bridle for my 17.1hh half bred. It’s XF and just beautiful leather. It’s on the large side for him he is on the top holes for noseband width, there is plenty of brow band width. It is definitely noticeably larger than a standard Horse/Full (he is on the Last noseband hole on my Sabre full)
