Sad post!

My lovely Supercobby came home lame yesterday after hunting. I was only out for half an hour as he wasn't right.

He feet really tense over his back, really on his forehand as we left the meet. He does bronc sometimes, so I thought it was just a tantrum brewing. As we trotted down the road, he got worse and started nodding so I went back to the lorry.

There's no heat at all in any leg, his off fore did fill in the lorry but not majorly. We turned him out last night to see if he'd come up sound this morning, but he's no better. He seems to be lame on different legs depending on the surface - he's lame on his off fore on hard, near fore in the school.

We've kept him in tonight in the hope that something will swell/get warm - he's by no means hopping lame, just not sound. We've checked for thorns, checked his feet, checked his back.....he was shod three weeks ago, so guess it's not nail bind or anything....

Does anyone have any suggestions?

My cob went lame after riding for an hour in my friends field, he had trodden on a stone so we put it down to bruising, turned out to be ringbone in both feet he never came sound in 10 months. Maybe your horse has trodden on a stone and it is just bruising. Hope he's back to bring sound soon x

Was it muddy out hunting.

I had a horse years ago who couldn't decide which leg to be lame on. I cant exactly remember what he had done but the vet put it down to the very deep clingy mud at the time. I think he must have pulled something. He was box rested for a few days and was fine after that.

Other than that I have no idea unless he was done something to his back/shoulder etc etc. I would probably have the vet out if he doesn't come sound in a couple of days.

We were only on the road for 10 mins yesterday, so I can't blame the mud....

We didn't canter either, but his head carriage was normal last week. I am beginning to think his back might be out though, thinking back to last week he was landing on all four feet rather than actually making a shape over ditches. There's another random lameness post further down which seems very similar and that was a back problem....

I'll see how he is over the next few days then get the back lady out.

Poor old boy, he's never sick or sorry!

Thank you for your replies. xx
