My youngster has to have front shoes on as he suffers form sore feet from coming in from field etc (its quite stoney) However he has lost 2 shoes on the same foot in the past 10 days (this foot is one that has always suffered from abcess) farrier and vet say he has good feet. but for some reason he just keeps losing a shoe on this one... Any ideas for helping to keep them on a little longer than 2 weeks.....!!

Can't help you there, cos I seem to be seeing my farrier every fortnight too. But I think this time of year is always a bugger for shoes - it's not just mine - but several horses on my yard keep losing front shoes (shod by different farriers). The only explanation I have heard that seems reasonable is that it's the weather constantly going back and forth between dry and wet - so the horn expands when it's wet and then shrinks again when it's dry. The nails don't have much hope of hanging on well when the foot keeps changing like that. My horse also has strange foot conformation, so the farrier must leave slightly more shoe exposed on the inside of one front (not explaning this well) for support so it's there for the grabbing. So I've got him extra large overreach boots to go all the way to the floor to keep him from accidently standing on himself.

Another vote for extra large overreach boots left on all the time. You ned them to be touching the floor in the heel area & I find that ones without an anti-spin knob are less likely to rub.

Another vote for extra large overreach boots. My horse kept pulling the same shoe off too. He now wears the woofwear boots and so far has not pulled a shoe off in the field. *touching wood* :)
