As some may have read in the vet section my foal probably has OCD. I am not planning on doing total box rest as I don't think it fair but she will be on minimal turnout in a small pen and kept in a small barn. I don't want to put any of my other horses in with her as they are fit working horses but I think she is lonely and keeps trying to befriend the lab. So any ideas or opinions on an animal as a companion for her. She is very placid and gentle so it mustnt bully her

Ordinarily I would say another foal, but you dont want them hooning about if she has OCD.
What about seeing if you can borrow an elderly pony?

Small child?

Just kidding;)

goats are often very good companions
They are:) try to get one that has been de-horned though, this one is now virtually the same size as this pony and likes to play so sadly isn't allowed with the horses anymore for fear of disembowelling them by accident :(

Sheep are also quite good so I am told, although they are higher maintenance than goats.

Personally I'd go looking for a quiet old pony, if possible I think foals really do need the influence of other equines.

Oh will go mad I am supposed to be getting rid of horses not acquiring old companions. I can see my falling for some sob story!

Have u a friendly local farmer who would lend u a calf? We borrowed one to act as a companion for an orphan foal once and it was ideal. It wasnt excitable and put up with the foals antics without getting upset and we had it leading so it caused no trouble whatsoever and no worries about what to do with it later, it was collected and went on to lead a normal life as a cow.
