Because I won't let him have 'his' phessie back

We have just been doing some training with one of a brace of phessies that I got yesterday - one is for eating (assuming I can work out what to do with it!) and one is for Henry to practice his picking up skills on.

He has just cracked the tricky 'picking up a big heavy feathery thing' thing, but now all he wants to do is to get into the shed where they both are and have a few more goes and I won't let him Because I am cold and tired and I don't want him to get too carried away with it, better to end on a good retrieve to hand as we did

So he is just sitting by the back door, grizzling about the unfairness of life, the universe and especially ME!

Lucky the shed is spangle proof

Well done Henry for retrieving a real phessie though - that's brilliant! Purdey has managed a partridge but pheasants are still a bit big and heavy for her. Keep practising with him then next year he can come as a 'peg dog' as well as a beater
Purdey is being a sulky madam also right now as she has come back from her walk filthy so she has to stay in the kitchen til she's dry. I think she has been so used to being with us this holiday she is not very impressed about being shut out!

LOL - he could only be a peg dog if the gun was wearing really heavy duty ear defenders Imagine the racket he'd make with all that sitting still! I have a video of him doing it, but I won't be able to post it until I get back to my place - it's mostly a blur of speed anyway

The best, least messy way I prep pheassies for my 2 is to split a bin liner and lay bird on it. Put marigolds on and with a very sharp knife cut the head off at the base of the neck (I cover head with bin liner so I don't have to look at it while I do this ) then cut off legs at join (mind the spurs if a cock bird) and then make incision right down the middle (front) and peel skin off all the way round. Should come off in one! Bingo, whole skinless pheassie - then chuck on patio! nom nom

Well done Henry, thats quite a big bird for a little chap.
Mollichop, judging from the thread in SB I think Spud was planning on eating the pheasant herself.
