Quote: If you must wash the legs then you must dry also. Sulphur powder or 'Keratex Mud Shield' powder sprinkled generously on the heels is very effective (even when sprinkled on wet legs) probably because these have a marked drying effect.

I've got yellow sulphur powder but haven't heard of it used 'neat' as a powder applied to the legs, before. Anyone else do this to help prevent mud fever and not mix it with pig oil first?

Years ago, before all these creams came on the scene, you'd be lucky if you had anything more than sulphanilimide powder to help with mud fever! Yes, anything to aid in drying out the background skin should be good and sulphur is good for skin problems.

We mix Sulphur Powder with Baby talc and then it looks exactly like Keratex mud fever powder(half the price). After hunting we wash the legs dry with towells throw loads of Sulphur and talc in heels and then bandage using fibre gee and stable bandages. Its an excellent preventative for mud fever.
