Mini cob has a beautiful, long mane and forelock, but it’s rather thick and he must be hot at the moment. Those of you who plait manes in some way, what ‘style’ do you go for and how long do you leave it before taking it out? (He lives out 24/7).

I find whichever side is toward the sun is the hottest. For leaving in I do lots of long thin plaits, loose at the top and tighter lower down, so that they do not pull on the neck.
this is what I have done when I've had a long maned horse.
My welsh cob has a fairly shortish mane, she was sweating underneath it this morning. I just put hers in bunches as it's short enough for that to give her neck some airflow.

J is the first horse I've ever had with a long mane and I was surprised to find that he seems to stay cool under it. In very hot weather I do put it into long loose plaits like rabatsa but I think it mainly makes me feel better!

Mine get very hot under the mane. I just do long single plaits, about ten of them. That seems to be enough to allow air to circulate and keep them cool
