When is the right time to clip my horses so that the summer coat will grow through nicely? My horses aren't very good at loosing their winter coat! Also when you are doing a competition clip in the summer what length blade do you use? Thanks!

I just use the same medium blades summer and winter when clipping. I clipped Stella all year round full clip legs the lot as she was just too warm otherwise being a double native cross she had a heavier summer coat than my friends TB had a winter one.

So long as I do it before he starts moulting the summer coat is always fine (lateish March I think I usually go for). He is always late shedding and it takes and age so I take it all off on the final clip. Ditto when I have clipped in summer I have just used the same medium blades.

CK do you still have stella? I have noted she has gone from your sig?
