Im just wondering if anyones clipped neds are showing signs of summer coats yet?
Some of the horses on the yard wherre I work are starting to shed, but they are (in my opinion) over-rugged.
My two are still looking like they have just been clipped, although the little one is starting to get itchy, so she may start to shed soon.
Should I be rugging a little more? (200g in field & sheets and light stable rugs inside)
We are up on a hill, which tends to be a good 3/4 degrees colder than down in the village, and the girls are stabled in a large lambing barn, so the walls of their stables are only 7ft high.
thoughts??

My cob is, where he's not been clipped, he's in a medium rug. Every time I groom him more and more comes out!!! yeah spring and summer are coming!!!!!!!!!! :)

Not sure about rugging, only you can make that choice.

Melly is clipped right out, legs, mane etc, but Serren has her face and legs still on, and Im starting to think they will stay wooly forever!!!

my section c is still in his 300g filling as i have the same situation being stuck on the 2nd highest point in Nottingham! he is clipped all over bar head and legs and where as he does has the odd hour or two at a weekend naked I dont have a lightweight rug yet to switch him over permanent as this is the first year he's been clipped. he's seems fine and doesnt show signs of being too hot etc. New Derby market though (2 weeks) and he'll definately have a lightweight on!!! lol

odd couple of hairs off the WB but not the native, its really slow this year normally by now theyed be shedding like crazy but the cold wind is making them hang onto it i think

unless they are sweating/itchy they are probably not over rugged.....

....mine are well rugged all year round, but are never too hot.my 5yo TB is showing a summer coat all over now, another 3 weeks and i reckon he'll be though.mums horse is a bit behind, no moulting but soft summer coat starting to come though.
unclipped shetland is moulting like crazy, but even he is still in a full neck rug.

I've got three NFs (which are like woolly mammoths) and a WB, all out 24/7, none clipped and none of them are showing any signs of beginning to shed winter coats yet. For the first time since October the WB is out today without a rug on, she has had a lightweight turn out on and I shall put it back on overnight for a while as it's still so cold at night

Mines not clipped....but he definately thinks summer is on its way.....i am plastered in hair after grooming him!!! which is always good when your OH is allergic to horses ;-)!!!

He is stabled at night and for part of te day with a stable rug on and a heavy turn out rug in the day....but going to get a lighter weight one for him! The horse i am talking about ..... not my OH!!! :-D

My arab is in a LW rug and is shedding like mad. His body is almost completley through (he has spots in summer but not in winter so I can tell easily!) and its just his neck and head thats a little hairy still!

Native on the other hand is clipped and she hasnt lost a single hair yet!

Quite a lot of horses on the yard are naked now too.

Im in a catch 22 situation, as both of mine are very good doers so I dont want to 'over rug' but at the same time I want them to be warm enough! Seren (show pony) looks fresh clipped 2 months after clipping out, and Mels (big girl in sig) is all cat hairy... Everyone elses horses look so much better!
