Well....thankfully....Spring seems to be on the way!!
I just wondered if anyone could offer me some suggestions re my daughter's pony's diet for the spring/summer months. Here is a little about her:
She has lived in a lot through the winter months (turnout restricted - some day turnout only). However, once the better weather arrives, we are allowed increasing amounts of turnout (all day - eventually allowed 24/7 turnout if we wish from April onwards). Pony is a 148cm competition pony (showjumps up to Fox level currently) - having said that, we do not compete weekly (financial restrictions!), so probably every other weekend. She is a lovely mare to handle in every way, super calm on the ground. Riding wise, she is not hot or fizzy, not strong, ridden in a simple snaffle for any discipline. Can be quirky when showjumping in the sense she bucks!
She maintains weight well. Never skinny, but doesn't seem to balloon either. Has been on Alpha-A Oil for quite some time, usually just mixed with some nuts and carrots and water to moisten. Before the nuts, someone had suggested we pop her on D&H Pasture Mix for a bit more energy for her jumping, but when they became stabled a lot more when the winter weather set in, I replaced this with just a few of the grass nuts (which she also has in her treat ball) as she was a bit more tricky and resistant to ride and was even bucking on the flat (back done and saddle checked and fully re-flocked - all fine. Teeth all fine too).
I am just thinking, once she starts living out more (which she does enjoy), I still like to give her a little something for her tea, especially when she is competing (for energy) and wondered if anyone could recommend a suitable tea-time diet for her?
Thank you very much for your time
