Is there a market for this at all?

My friend is looking to get a horse untill the end of this summer\autumn.
She was looking to loan, however, wasn't sure if many people would loan short term or not so is also thinking of getting a project for the summer to then sell on maybe instead.

What would you say? Have you known many for loan just throughout the summer [Well from now till september time]? I was veering more towards getting one to buy then sell as don't know many for loan just for that short amount of time...though with the market this pants atm, I'd be worried about not being able to sell. So ideally, loan would be best if there was such a loan horse out there...but I'm just unsure if there is!

She's looking for something just to have fun on really and get out doing some unaffiliated SJ etc.

Suggestions?

i think its v.v.v.cheeky to only want a horse through the summer and then hand it back to the owner as the light is fading, the weather is getting colder etc.

why can she not have a horse beyond September?

i would not loan my horse out just for the summer, particularly if i have looked after it through this horrendous winter we have jest been through!

College in September. Yeah no, that's my thoughts too :) I just thought I'd put a post up to see other opinions too!

I have something that I'm looking to loan out for the summer, and I've been struggling to find someone!
He's for sale, but has come back with a few issues and I was looking for someone with more time than I have, to do a bit of everything with him over the summer, but have just about given up hope! PM me if you think she'd be interested!

I don't think it is necessaily a bad idea and a shame you don't live closer to me! I have been thinking of loaning out one of mine just for the Summer months - I use him to hunt over the winter, but he is also a decent local level SJ and loves hunter trials/fun rides etc, but always gets left behind as I have another horse who is still requiring 'education', so takes priority at summer events!
Your friend may be better putting out a 'wanted' ad, as anyone who has a horse for all yr round loan may not be interested, but I don't see it as a 'cheeky' idea as peoples circumstances always vary......

I used to have a horse on loan from May to September: I was away at University for the rest of the year and knew the owner very well and it worked out very well for us.
I competed him in the summer months and rode every day, and in the winter he moved back to her yard in her town.

Ooo shall Pm you now :)

Sidney...distance isn't necessarily a problem so if it is something you'd be interested in feel free to drop a PM or something :) She is a member on here, but not sure how often she comes on tbh. She's a good friend of mine and our working pupil :)

Some of the state equine colleges take horses 'on loan' for the term time and a proportion of the horses then go and sit in a field for the summer (which means they are more likely to injure themselves as unfit when they go back). If you have a local college it might be worth contacting them - especially if you are a equine business as they are always looking for tie ups for work experience for their pupils, etc!

I think there may be a much smaller market for this, the more common way round is that you have the horses over winter. That's what we had before we purchased our own, we loaned out two ponies from a local trekking centre over the winter once.
Saying that, there will be some out there who would not mind it being just summer

Thanks :) I was also thinking of contacting the equine colleges also, as used to be at one myself and some were put out on loan over summer.....though most were turned away as a holiday as worked v hard during term time.
