Hi, I have a 24year old arthritic mare, who is still in light work. She is kept with my Section a who suffers with sweetitch and is a very good doer so always watching his weight. Both horses are turned out from 7/8am till 5.30/6 and stabled each night. My section a has to come in each night as this is the best way we have found to manage his sweetitch and diet (muzzled during day, soaked hay at night) My mare always wants to come in each night, I have tried her out at night but she doesn't settle. I think she likes to come in off the hard ground as she usually has a lie down during the night and likes to be out of the flies. I have been putting leg wraps on her over night on cooler nights and magnetic bands on her legs on hotter nights, so far this has been working to keep her comfortable however I am finding that she responds better to have the leg wraps on rather than the magnets. She walks out the stable less stiff when she's had her wraps on. However I am worried about putting the wraps on overnight on warmer nights, I don't want to overheat her legs/tendons. Do others use leg wraps all year round? Which do you find supports the legs but doesn't overheat.
