I am interested to find out what everyone's routines are for summer turn out. I have had my mare for 6 months so have never been through summmertime with her. Do most people turn out 24/7 or do people bring for a few hours during the day? Also do people bring in to feed or just feed in the field ? My girl had bad rain scald when I got her its much better but I don't want her to get it again.
We are still on winter routine but folk are starting to move to summer fields I'm not sure what routine to follow.
Sorry for numpty question :o

I used to keep mine out 24/7 muzzled but she still got too fat despite daily work so I now bring in by day and turn out at night (started that this weekend).

If a good doer I'd bring in to get off the grass, if average to poor doer I'd keep out 24/7 unless it gets very hot.

When living out I like to bring in to yard once a day to check over properly etc but do sometimes feed at the field too.

Mine go out 24/7. Generally bring them in to ride & groom 5 or 6 days a week, other days & in the morning before work tend to feed & check over, put fly repellent on etc in field. Also depends tho on who they're out with, the other 3 are out only in the day at mo so aren't a problem when I feed in field, but when they are out I bring mine in to stop fighting.

mine are out 24/7 but come in for a few hours most days so that I can groom and handle them./ take them for a walk. They are youngsters.

My mare comes in during the day, gelding is out 24/7. Would rather they were both out 24/7 but mare needs some time away from the others these days and enjoys coming in for some peace for a while.

I prefer 24/7

hi, i keep my horses in the same routine threw winter and summer, out in day in at night, day time in warm weather they have full fly rugs on and if its raining light weight new zealands on or if its a bit chilly they have the light weights on. if its red hot if i can remember them days they may come in earlier depending if they have shade to escape the sun everyones situation is so diffrent its what works best for you and your horse. If she has had rain scold them i would suggest on wet days to invest in a light weight new zealand to protect the area. hope that helps hun :)

The yard are out now for the summer we have split the field in half to allow the back half to grow. So they have a haynet in the morning and at night and they have their tea with another haynet. They stay out 24/7 through the summer but have plenty of trees in the field which they are often standing under in the heat. Once the field has grown we drop the hay and slowly move the electric tape back allowing them the grass.
